about

The Billy Tipton Memorial Sax Quartet met Ne Zhdali at a squat in Amsterdam in 1993, and the two groups vowed to work together. In 1996, the Tiptons received a grant to travel to Tallinn, Estonia to create, collaborate and record Pollo d'Oro with Ne Zhdali in the span of two intense weeks. The recording was originally to be released on Eighth Day Records. The Tiptons met with label manager Adam at the Chicago Airport on their way to Tallin, and received further funding in 3 small envelopes, one of the more surreal transactions in the band's history. Ultimately Eighth Day Records did not release the recording, and Gerhard Busse of No Man's Land records released Pollo d'Oro in Berlin, Germany in 1998.
